Merton certainly hits the nail on the head. It’s as if he is still living and going through our present times with us.
If you are looking to take your faith to a deeper level I encourage you to read Merton’s works–they are timeless.
I suggest you begin with “The Seven Storey Mountain.”
Instead of wasting time worrying about a future that is out of our hands, we should invest our time embracing what is in our hands with courage, faith, and hope.
Faith is like a muscle, it needs to be worked and every time we worry or become anxious about the unknown we weaken our faith muscle…I write from experience.
How’s your faith?
Do you dwell on the unknown or focus on the possibilities and challenges presented at the moment?
John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (ESV)
