Lack Nothing and Own the World

Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.

— Lao Tzu —

Tzo’s quote is so true.

Some of you may remember my story about a homeless man I helped while we were on vacation in Colorado several years ago.

His calm spirit amazed me and when I asked him how he was able to be so peaceful while his world seemed in disarray, he asked me if he could take a look at my Bible. I handed him my Bible and he began leafing through the pages and said, “Here it is.” Then he looked at me and asked, “Do you believe the Bible is the truth and we should try our best to do what it says?” I responded, “Yes.”

Then he read the following to me; “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:11-13)

Does your world “belong to you” or does it belong to another person, place, or thing?

Our world needs more contentment these days.
