The opening quote is from James Clear’s book, “Atomic Habits.”
If you are trying to make positive adjustments to some habits in your life I highly recommend Clear’s book.
Habits are interesting.
When we do something without giving it any thought, that something is done out of habit.
The other day we lost the power to our house around 5 am.
The house was dark and although I used my cellphone light to assist me in finding my way around, I found myself flipping the light switch upon entry into each room.
After doing this for the third time and seeing no light, a light bulb went off in my head and said, “This is how habits work.”
If you want to break a habit you have to think before you act.
If you want to start a new habit, you have to think before you act.
Habits are not stopped or created overnight.
They are stopped or created one thought to action at a time.
Winners and losers have the same goals. Winners simply start their trek toward their goal and continue on the trek.
What habit(s) is/are God nudging you to change?
Try using James Clear (Atomic Habits)Â and/or Stephen Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)Â as your mentors for the next month.
“All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision. But as that decision is repeated, a habit sprouts and grows stronger. Roots entrench themselves and branches grow. The task of breaking a bad habit is like uprooting a powerful oak within us. And the task of building a good habit is like cultivating a delicate flower one day at a time.†~James Clear
2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
