Crushing Fear – Day 2 – Can Do

If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

DSC_6726“I can’t do this Daddy, it’s too hard,” are words I recall coming from my kids’ little mouths many years ago.  I used to tell them “can’t” was a bad word and then help them find a way to overcome whatever challenge they were facing.

It is always easier to give into our doubts than it is to do whatever it takes to overcome them.

The devil loves for us to live in the world of “can’t,” in fact “can’t” is the devil’s favorite four letter word.

If the devil can get us to believe we can’t achieve our dream (because someone told us our dream was silly or we didn’t have what it takes to make it come true).

or

We can’t forgive the “unforgivable” (because we were raised on the belief that we must always get even).

or

We can’t confront the tough issues (because someone told us to never ruffle any feathers).

or

We can’t stop an addiction (because we believe it is impossible and/or we are not worthy to have a better life).

or

We can’t forgive ourselves (because we tell ourselves what we did can never be forgiven).

or

We can’t stop comparing ourselves to others (because someone told us a long time ago we weren’t good enough).

or

We can’t seek help from others (because someone told us asking for help was a form of weakness).

CAN’T  is a LIE that comes from the devil and for many of us, is a mindset that has been passed on from previous generations.

I’m here to tell you you CAN!

God gives us the ability to dream and picture a better way for a reason.  He wants us to do great things. All of the above examples as well as hundreds of other “cant’s” can be overcome with courage that is formed through an ongoing conscious contact with God.

Courage is simply fear that has been prayed for–over and over and over.

If and when the devil’s favorite four letter word (can’t) begins going through your head recite the following; “I CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Philippians 4:13.

Reflection:

What self-limiting beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with “can’t”?

Read and reflect upon:  Jeremiah 29:11, 2 Timothy 1:7
