Balancing Doubt & Confidence

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

— Charles Bukowski —

Reflection

If I had seen this quote thirty years ago, I would have ignored it and thought it was absurd as I once was one of the most confident idiots I’ve ever known.

I’m not saying confidence is a bad thing. In fact, quiet confidence or confidence under control is what I observe in the humble.

The confidence that hurts us is the confidence that closes our minds to the input and counsel of others. That type of confidence keeps our world very small.

The key is to have our doubts balance our confidence and have our confidence balance our doubts.

Not an easy task but an attribute we must develop if we are going to make the most of ourselves.

Do you always think you are right?

Do you find yourself thinking your way is the only and best way?

Try opening your mind to new options and points of view.

Opening your mind will expand your world…I write from experience.

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”  Proverbs 26:12 (NIV)
