Alone Time

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”  ~Blaise Pascal

EagleLaunch’s soul purpose is to make a dent in the devil’s playground (internet) one reader at a time, one day at a time.  We attempt to do this by opening the blog with a quote for the reader to chew on and compare to his or her life.  Then I usually give my thoughts on the quote, and finally I close it out with scripture supporting the quote and my thoughts.

Pascal’s quote is very true and I’m a little worried about the present condition of our world when it comes to being able to sit quietly in a room alone.  With smart phones, social media, the internet and all of the distractions they bring with them, alone time is diminishing.

When is the last time you sat quietly in a room alone?  I’m not talking about isolation where the intent is to totally shut out the world, including your creator, so the committee in your head can help destroy another day.

I’m talking about time alone to pray, meditate and accept God’s energy.  I do this first thing in the morning, every morning for at least 30 minutes.  I have bonus days where I can go on long runs or bike rides (alone) and do the same.

Developing the discipline of being alone, being still and being in your Creator’s presence is a discipline that will create energy and serenity in your life.  It is actually the most important time in a person’s day if he or she intends to grow beyond present conditions.

I write from experience.

Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”  (NIV)

Matthew 14:23, “After he (Jesus) had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.”  (NIV)

Mark 1:35, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where he prayed.”  (NIV)
