Daily focalPOINT – Ain’t nothing he wouldn’t do for you…

“To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”  Proverbs 21:3

When I read this Proverb on the 21st day of the month (part of my daily God time), I couldn’t help but think of one of the most commonly used lines I’ve heard over the years when someone is describing a “good” alcoholic to me, “Jay there ain’t nothing he wouldn’t do for another person when he was sober.”

Although there is some truth in the above quote, as an alcoholic I can tell you one of the ways we try to make up for our unrighteous and unjustified living is by helping others and this is often done in a manipulative manner.

Practicing alcoholics and addicts are manipulative cons.  You can always tell when they are lying…it is when their lips are moving.

It takes one to know one.

It may look as though I just threw all of my fellow alcoholics and addicts under the bus but people without an addiction problem are just as guilty of using the “sacrifice mode” in order to get what they want.  Lots of people sacrifice in order to get a “high” from helping others.  Sacrifice cannot be about you it must be about what God is asking you to do for another human being.

If you are sacrificing with the wrong motives then it is manipulation.

Choose righteous living (right acting) first, and sacrifice simply becomes a part of that lifestyle.
