Reflection
When I wrote the opening quote, I was thinking about what actually keeps people from reaching their goals.
It’s rarely a lack of focus; it’s inaction. That inaction often hides behind perfectionism, fear of the unknown, or anxiety. I know plenty of people who get stuck in Ready–Aim–Aim–Aim and never pull the trigger.
Writing your goals down matters, but goals are only the aim. Action steps are what help you fire the shot. If your goal is to grow closer to Jesus in 2026 so you become a better human being, what will you do—pray daily, meditate, read Scripture? Make those steps SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
The same applies to practical goals. “Improve our home” becomes powerful when it’s defined: three specific projects, clear steps, clear outcomes.
Clarity creates confidence, and confidence makes action easier…I always write from experience.
