Yesterday, we dissected the first step, i.e., believing, from Picasso’s quote, “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”
Today and tomorrow, as noted in the Picasso quote, I will vigorously discuss what facilitates and propels our ability to act.
Reflection
I remember sitting in our living room in December of 2017, watching the World Triathlon race, which takes place in Kona, Hawaii.
As most of you know, triathlon is my hobby that fuels my love of competition and facilitates my need for intense exercise to calm my anxious mind and soul.
The pinnacle of a triathlon is the completion of an Ironman. An Ironman triathlon includes a swim of 2.4 miles, a bike ride of 112 miles, and a run of 26.2 miles (a marathon).
I had completed several 1/2 Ironman’s but always thought I didn’t have what it took to complete a full Ironman. I thought I was too old and that my time had passed.
As I sat watching the finishers at Kona, I noticed several older than me, and then I was struck with a thought, “I’m going to turn 60 in a year; if I’m ever going to do it, now is the time.”
I then added to my 2018 goals in my journal–Complete a Full Ironman.
I look at my annual goals every day as a helpful accountability reminder.
I had just completed the first step in creating a plan to achieve a dream or a goal–I wrote it down.
Have you reduced your 2024 resolution to writing?
Is the goal(s) noted in a place you will see often?
One of my BIG goals for 2024 is to complete Ironman Wilmington, a half-ironman, in October near the Outer Banks, North Carolina.
I am trying my best to stay in shape for a return to a full Ironman in 2029…when I will be 70.
BE MORE in 2024

P.E.A.C.E. to BE MORE in 2024…
P – (Plan) A dream remains a dream until it is written down. Putting your dream in writing is the first step in creating a PLAN to achieve it.
E – (Effort) Turning your dream into reality requires a commitment to putting forth consistent and focused EFFORT toward executing your plan.
A – (Attitude) If you think you can achieve your dream, you will. Your ATTITUDE always determines your altitude in life.
C – (Community) Nothing great in life happens by doing it alone. The chances of realizing your dream expand as your COMMUNITY of positive mentors and peers expand.
E – (Energy) Chasing and attaining your dream requires optimal mental, physical, and spiritual levels of ENERGY. Take care of yourself!
Yes—write it! (and a favorite supporting passage as well!)
