144 Laps of Discomfort

You want to grow? Go outside your comfort zone.

— JMeyer —

I’m finishing up week 21 out of 30 for my Ironman Maryland training.

I’m learning so much about myself and life while training for this BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal).

When I paused and reflected on why this has been such a great learning experience, I quickly found the answer–the entire process has taken me outside my comfort zone.

We aren’t learning and growing when we are doing things we are comfortable doing.

A couple of days ago I swam 2 and 1/4 miles. That’s 144 laps in the pool. That’s 90 minutes of discomfort spent looking at a black line on the bottom of the pool. 🙂 The cool thing about these long swims is they have removed my fear of swimming for 90 minutes in an intercoastal waterway at seven in the morning on September 29, 2018.

In order for possible to come true, we must be willing to attempt what our mind says is impossible.

What are you doing in order to push and grow yourself?

Do you have a BHAG?

If so, create a plan to accomplish it, get uncomfortable, and go for it!

Habakkuk 2:2-3, “And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”
