Receive and Release

He who is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord and He will reward him for what he has done.

— Proverbs 19:17 —

Reflection

I received so many nuggets of wisdom from recovering alcoholics and addicts during the early days of my transformation. But none more impactful than the saying, “You can’t keep what you have unless you give it away.”

In context, that saying meant, “If you want to stay sober, you’ll need to help others get and stay sober.”

I found the saying to be helpful for all aspects of my life.

If you want to keep your happiness, share your happiness.

If you want to keep your blessings, share your blessings.

If you want to keep your joy, share your joy.

On the contrary..

If you want to keep your anger, share your anger.

If you want to keep your ignorance, share your ignorance.

Etc.

I hope you get my drift.

Questions

Proverbs 19:17 (NIV), “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.”

In Luke 6:38, Jesus says, “Give and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full –pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

Are you giving more than you are taking?
