Priorities, Beliefs and God

To change your life you need to change your priorities.

— Unknown —

I had a conversation with a friend the other day who was struggling with keeping the main thing the main thing, which was leading to anxiety and lack of sleep.

If this is you, don’t feel bad, we live in a world where lots of people struggle with finding and living their ‘main thing.’

For the most part, the opening quote is true. When we change our priorities our life will change.

My life changed dramatically when my number one priority was to stay sober a day at a time. The reason staying sober became my top priority is because I believed alcohol and drugs would eventually take my life and I wanted to live.

My priorities changed because my belief about alcohol and drugs had changed.

My ability to stay sober one day at a time is due to my belief that God will help me stay sober if I put my addiction challenges in His hands. I didn’t come up with this belief on my own. It was passed on to me from my mentors in Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our lives change when our priorities change and our priorities change when our beliefs change.

Over the years I’ve slowly but surely put all aspects of my life in God’s hands. If he can help an addict stay sober why wouldn’t he help me be a better husband, father, son, friend and business leader?

It took me about 200 words to make a point I cannot stress enough:

Once you believe there is no greater priority than your relationship with God, and you try your best to live that belief—all other priorities will fall into place.

Matthew 6:33, “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)
