Obscure Relevance – Unknown

We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think we know about the unknown.

The following is an EagleLaunch post from two years ago when Lori and I traveled to Alaska…

Alaska Trip – Day Twelve

Obscure/Relevance Topic:  Unknown

We are beginning our two day journey home and thoughts of the unknown begin to percolate in my mind.

Will the train get us to Anchorage on time?

What if the plane from Anchorage to Chicago is delayed?

Will we have a delay in Chicago?

What if the plane goes down with Lori and me aboard?  Who will care for Jordan?

Then I began to reflect on the word, “unknown.”

Fear of the unknown can create a paralyzing state in our life if we do not recognize it for what it is.

I have found the best way to handle the unknown is to pray…God is the only being who knows the unknown.

Praying in the midst of the unknown forces us to “un-know.”  Like Swan’s quote at the outset of this post says, “we fear what we think we know about the unknown.”

Our fear of the unknown is fear derived from old thinking derived from old “known’s.”

Have I confused you yet?

How crazy is it to use old thinking to shape our view of the unknown when we haven’t experienced it yet?

We’ve all heard the saying below:

“It’s impossible,” said pride.  “It’s risky,” said experience.  “It’s pointless,” said reason.  “Give it a try,” whispered the heart.

What “unknown” are you fretting over?  If you are fretting over an unknown try listening to your heart after praying.

DSC_6587Highlight for the day:  The first leg of our journey home involved taking an eight hour train ride from Denali to Anchorage.  I had never experienced a train ride before.  It was definitely a step into the unknown for us, a step I’m glad we took.  Another journey where God’s beauty just kept showing up.
