No Eggs Part 3

You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.

This is a continuation of posts from June 7th and 8th…

Luckily my God-conscious won out and  I looked at him and said, “Hey, come with me, it looks as though you could use some breakfast.”

You would have thought I had handed him a million dollars as his eyes lit up and he followed me to our booth.

Over my years of working with and helping others, I have a couple of questions I always ask that help me figure out what is going on in someone’s life pretty quickly.  The first question is whether or not they believe in God.  When I asked my new friend this question, he proceeded to tell me he was not into organized religion but he believed in Jesus and His teachings.

Then I asked him why he was homeless, and he proceeded to tell me that he had arrived in Fort Collins in hopes of having work to do and things didn’t work out as planned.  He had run out of money, had no work, and had spent the last ten days sleeping in alleys and eating out of dumpsters while trying to find a way back home to Tampa.

He shared with me that he had stopped by at least a half-dozen churches, and each one of them told him they could not help him.

After hearing all of this, I asked him if he was angry at God because the churches had not come through for him.  He looked at me and said, “No.”  Then he saw I had my Bible with me and he asked me if he could look at it.

He quickly leafed through some pages and turned to the passage below from Philippians and read it to me.

The story concludes tomorrow…

Philippians 4:11-13 (MSG), “Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally.  I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.  I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.  I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty.  Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One (Jesus) who makes me who I am.”

Additional Scripture: Psalm 36:16-17, Proverbs 17:1, Proverbs 22:2, James 2:6, Galatians 2:9-10
