HabitFast Journey-Day 7-The Best Day Starts the Night Before

The start of a perfect day begins the night before.

— Matthew Kelly —

HABITThis is Day 7 of our preparatory phase of the 2015 HabitFast Journey.

The final step in this process of preparing you for success in starving or starting your habit requires some discipline on your part as I strongly encourage you to reflect, journal and pray twice daily during your HabitFast Journey.

Journaling and praying for God’s assistance will begin tonight as you prepare for the first day of your journey.

Prior to going to bed, you will need to review your HabitFast Plan (it has 7 steps, beginning with what you “aspire to be”) as well as your “Negative Triggers” page.

Then write down 3 key action steps for tomorrow. These could be as simple as:  1-Pray to start my day  2-Pray throughout the day  3-Pray at the end of the day.  Your daily action steps are the 3 “big rocks” you need to do in order to have the best chance at making positive change for the day.

Then turn your HabitFast Plan, Negative Triggers and 3 action steps over to God before going to sleep.  God does some amazing things with our “stuff” while we sleep…and for me is the reason the start of a perfect day begins the night before.

Tomorrow and all subsequent days will shape up like this:

1.  First thing in the morning; review and reflect on your HabitFast Plan, your Negative Triggers and your 3 action steps for the day.  Journal any thoughts and pictures that come to mind and then prayerfully turn your plan, negative triggers and action steps over to God.   This is also a good time to read scripture from the Bible.  There are 31 Proverbs and I have found reading the Proverb that corresponds to the day of he month is a great way to listen to God’s word.

2.   Throughout the day, every time an unproductive thought or craving pops up in your head; PRAY for God to take it away.  God wants you to succeed. (See Jeremiah 29:11)

3.  At the close of your day, review, reflect and journal your progress and give yourself a grade/score for the day.

4.  After grading your day, review and reflect on your HabitFast Plan and then write 3 action steps in your journal under tomorrow’s date (please note: in some cases your daily action steps may be the same as the day before).

5.  Prayerfully turn your HabitFast Plan, Negative Triggers and 3 action steps for the next day over to God just prior to retiring for the evening.  Also, thank Him in advance for giving you the desire and strength to continue to make positive change in your life.

You will be repeating the above 5 steps daily throughout your HabitFast.
