Reflection:
I used to be a control freak—until my crash and burn in 1987 showed me just how little control I had.
For many of us with addiction issues, the need to control is a core character defect. We can’t control people, places, things, or situations—but we can control how we respond to them.
Facts
Fear thrives in the soil of control. The more we try to manipulate every outcome, the more we worry about what we can’t manage.
Letting go doesn’t mean giving up—it means giving in to God’s sovereignty. Trusting Him is the antidote to anxiety derived from the need to control.
If you find yourself struggling with control issues, loosen your grip and lean into the grace of God that surrounds you.
Soul Search:
Where in your life are you holding on too tightly? What would it mean to surrender that fear to God?
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
