The God Card

Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Wow I just returned from a quick “power shop.”  I needed a couple of belts a sweater, some gloves (for my freezing cold Triathlon on Sunday) and some socks.  I shot into my favorite department store, found my items and quickly got in line to check out.  My shopping took a grand total of 5 minutes.

While standing in line the clerk asked me if I found everything I needed (now that is one of dumbest questions you can ask a person who is standing with his or her wallet in hand getting ready to pay.)  If I couldn’t find something I would have asked someone prior to checking out…BTW…in my previous business life I was huge on quality customer service and part of providing quality customer service involves not asking the customer a stupid question.

Next, she says “do you want to put this on your XYZ (protecting the name of this store because I really do like the store) card?”  I said “no I will just pay cash.”

Next, she says “do you want to open up an account with us?”  I say “no I already have an account with you but I didn’t bring my card.”

She says “if you punch in your SS# you can put this purchase on your card and save an additional 20% today.”  Since we pay our cards off monthly I said “OK I will do that.” (What a great twist for the people out there who’ve cut up their credit cards trying to clear themselves of debt?????)  Can you say Satan is always waiting for us?

Then since I used my credit card I get a “scratch off card” for another discount and I didn’t even realize it but during this particular weekend there was a store wide discount…I pledge to my God in heaven every time I walk into this store they are having a store wide discount??!!

All said and done I saved $50.  My question is this; why not just mark your products down and save the consumer all of these steps????

Then after all of this the nice cashier hands me my receipt (as long as my arm) and circled an area where I can go online and complete a survey about my experience…the shopping took me 5 minutes and my time spent with the cashier took me longer than that…no I won’t be completing a survey.

Do we all realize how lucky we are to have a God who offers us customer service we are not deserving of?  Read Ephesians above.

The God Card never changes its price (Jesus paid it for us), always includes a 100% discount on our sins, asks us for no survey on how He’s doing and comes in the form of a Spirit that is with us 24/7 (no plastic or a number to memorize) and the rewards from using His Card go into eternity.  The use of His Card only has a couple of requirements; love Him and love others (through our actions) as much or more than we love ourselves.

Great plan God!
