Reflection:
What we focus on tends to expand.
A few years ago, we set our sights on owning a Class B motorhome—a van-sized RV, roughly the size of an Amazon delivery van. It seemed like the perfect fit for our family. With a microwave and refrigerator for Jordan’s specialized meals, and a built-in shower for those unpredictable moments, it promised more freedom and flexibility when we traveled.
As soon as we made that decision, something interesting happened—we began to see Class B motorhomes everywhere. On highways, in parking lots, in magazines, and ads. Had they always been there? Probably. But now they stood out.
This phenomenon is explained by the Reticular Activating System (RAS)—a network of neurons in the brainstem that acts like a filter for the thousands of stimuli we encounter each day.
When you intentionally focus on something, your RAS flags related information as important. It doesn’t create new opportunities—it simply tunes your awareness to what was already present but previously overlooked.
Here’s the deal…
Your focus fuels your filter.
When you focus on problems, you see more problems. But when you focus on possibilities, you begin to recognize open doors, divine appointments, and untapped potential.
Soul Search:
What are you consistently paying attention to? Is it worthy of your life energy?
