Recovery Month – Day 3 – A Thinking Problem

We don't have a drinking problem, we have a thinking problem.

Reflection

On the evening of August 9, 1987, I checked myself into Greene Hall Treatment Center. I learned a great deal from that five-week thought-transforming stay.

After spending a few days going through horrible withdrawal from the chemicals my body had made very good friends with, I attended a class that taught the disease process of addiction. I’ll never forget one of the opening comments that came from the instructor, “You all need to realize you have a thinking problem, not a drinking problem, and that your best thinking, for most of you, left you bankrupt in all aspects of your life and a reservation to a chemical dependency treatment center.”

TRUTH

Recovery and any significant change in life are won or lost in the mind.

When our thoughts shift, our choices follow.

Soul Search

What negative thought pattern do you need to surrender today? What mindset is preventing you from doing what you know you need to do? What steps can you take to begin changing your thinking? Who can help you with that change?

My brain is like a bad neighborhood, I shouldn’t go there alone.

Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
