Recovery Month – Day 19 – Service

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

Reflection

I don’t know where I’d be today if it weren’t for the people who stood by me in early recovery. Strangers turned into lifelines—slipping me their phone numbers with a simple but powerful charge: “Call me anytime—day or night.”

In time, I became the one scribbling my number down, passing on the same gift of hope.

Serving others has been part of my rhythm for years now, and I don’t plan on stopping.

A friend once told me, “You’ve more than served your penance. You don’t have to keep helping others.” My reply was simple: “This was never penance. It’s responsibility—and now it’s a way of life.”

When we serve for personal gain, we’re not really helping others—we’re feeding ourselves. But when we serve because it’s right, we discover who we were created to be: the self the Good Lord had in mind all along.

Soul Search

How can I serve outside my comfort zone this week and better find myself and serve the Lord?

Matthew 20:26 – “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”
