Recovery Month – Day 17 – Hope

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.

Reflection

I’ll never forget walking into an AA room for the first time after leaving Greene Hall Chemical Dependency Treatment Center.

My eyes locked on a smoke-stained sign that read, “Hope is found here.”

Those four words hit me like a lifeline.

In that moment, I felt the same relief you get when walking into a crowded banquet and spotting your name on a table card telling you, “this is where you belong.”

That room whispered that I wasn’t alone, that recovery was possible, and that life could be different.

Hope gave me the courage to stay and give recovery a try because somehow I knew it was the heartbeat of sobriety—echoing through the millions who had successfully walked the path before me.

Recovery is fueled by hope. Without it, despair creeps back in. With it, the future looks possible.

What gives me hope today?
