Reflection
Relapse is painful and dangerous, but it can also be a turning point.
I’ll never forget my last one—it became the bottom that saved my life. After exhausting every attempt to “figure out sobriety” on my own, I finally surrendered. In that moment of brokenness, I prayed the simplest and most powerful prayer: “God, help me!”
That surrender opened the door to true recovery.
Relapse doesn’t have to be the end, but it must be a lesson. When we let humility and prayer replace self-will, relapse can become the very wake-up call that leads us to lasting sobriety…I always write from experience.
Slipping isn’t the end. What matters is that we stand up again and keep moving forward.
If you are reading this and not battling any type of addiction, the above reflection holds true for anything you are trying to change in your life. There will be setbacks, but always remember, “Setbacks are set-ups for comebacks.”
