Random Thoughts About Humility and Recovery:
Humility is one of the cornerstones of long-term sobriety.
Pride and ego often fuel the destructive patterns of addiction, convincing us that we can handle life on our own terms. Nobody knows this better than me, as my pride, ego, and self-centeredness damn near killed me.
Recovery teaches the opposite truth: we need help, guidance, and accountability.
Being humble allows us to admit our limitations, seek support, and remain open to correction. Humility helps us surrender daily to a Higher Power, rather than relying on self-will that once led us astray. It keeps us teachable, reminding us that no matter how long we’ve been sober, we are only one decision away from relapse.
Living with humility also fosters gratitude, empathy, and connection with others—qualities that strengthen community and keep us from drifting into isolation.
In many ways, humility is the antidote to self-centeredness, which is at the root of addiction.
A humble heart makes room for growth, for grace, and for steady progress. When we live humbly, we not only protect our sobriety but also build a life grounded in peace, service, and authentic strength.
Humility opens the door for grace. Pride keeps us locked in self-sufficiency.
