Proverbs 1

Several years ago I was encouraged by a friend to make the Proverb that corresponds with the day of the month, a part of my morning devotion.  There are 31 Proverbs and although I’ve been reading them consistently for a number of years, each time I read them I seem to draw another “life nugget” that helps me better deal with life and live the way God wants me to live.  My morning Proverb time is simply a part of my personal improvement plan.  I know I am less than 24 hours away from messing things up if I don’t ask God to be the director of my day, first thing, each and every day.

For the month of May I will be writing short blog thoughts for each of the Proverbs and I will be reading them from the New Living Translation Bible (NLT).

Proverb 1:3, “Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just and fair.”

Proverb 1:5, “Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.  Let those with understanding receive guidance.”

Proverb 1:7, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”

Ok, let’s see, discipline has never been easy for me especially when it involves doing something I don’t want to do.  My decisions have not always been the best (especially B.C….before Christ).  I’ve never been that wise of a person so I need all of the guidance I can get.  I have a chance if I simply fear the Lord…albeit a healthy fear…more of a respect and acceptance thta He is God and I am not.

Thank you God and Solomon for this 1st Proverb as I will give it a try yet for another 1st day of the month.

Remember-personal improvement is a process, it is not an event.  Taking the time to read and reflect on this Proverb will allow you to make today a little bit better than yesterday.
