Philippians 3:13, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” (NKJV)
I’ve pretty much resolved myself to the fact that anything that causes me to be anxious or to worry is of the devil. Â The devil will do anything he can to paralyze us, especially those of us who choose to try to follow Jesus.
Anxiety is the great de-motivator and if allowed to fester it turns into depression. Anxiety usually evolves by worrying about what has not happened or what has already happened. How crazy is that? The majority of our worries are about the past and future, i.e. things we have absolutely no control over.
I have a couple of tools that help me stay away from anxiety today. I choose (it is a choice by the way) to only allow my past to be of value to me by learning from it and I choose (it is a choice by the way) to only allow my future (hasn’t happened yet) to be of value to me by putting in preparatory time for it. Â I also choose to turn whatever I am anxious about over to God as often as I need…I have a tendency of taking things back. 🙂
If I focus on the good lessons I’ve learned from my past as well as focus on doing what I need to prepare for the future my anxiety seems to subside.
This my friends is what it means to press on and in turn prevent the devil from pressing on you.
