As I pointed out yesterday our Mission Statement is our commitment statement.
In business, the Mission Statement is the promise to the customers.
In our personal life, our Mission Statement is our promise to those who will be touched by our Vision as well as a promise to ourselves.
I recently had one of my readers share with me (thank you!) that her Vision was plain and simple:Â “To be the best role model possible for my children and grandchildren.”
That is a fantastic Vision! The next step for this reader is to declare what he will do in order to make this happen.
Your initial drafts of a Mission Statement may be fifty or sixty words, but just like your Vision Statement; less is more. I challenge you to keep your Mission Statement at twenty words or less. I also encourage you to take your time in creating your Mission Statement. There is no quicker way to get off course with our Vision than to have a Mission that takes us to another playing field or even worse, takes us nowhere.
P.S. This is a process, it is not an event.
