Lent Mindset Day 43 – Grace in Betrayal

Forgiveness doesn’t excuse betrayal. It frees you from its grip.

Fact

If you live long enough, you will be betrayed, and nothing eats at your mindset more than the aftereffects of betrayal left unattended.

Betrayal feels like a sucker punch to the gut.

Jesus was no exception to betrayal and modeled how we should navigate the various emotions associated with it.

When Judas struck the deal with the devil on Wednesday of Holy Week, Jesus felt the deep sting of betrayal from someone close, yet He didn’t lash out or lose focus. He remained composed, faithful, and fixed on His mission, even referring to Judas as “Friend.”

Matthew 26:14-16, “Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

Matthew 26:50, “Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, do what you came to do.’ Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.”

You may know what it feels like to be betrayed—by a friend, a family member, or life itself. But betrayal doesn’t define you, and it doesn’t derail God’s purpose for you.

Like Jesus, you can move forward with strength, choosing purpose over bitterness and grace over revenge.

Your power is in your response. Let Jesus be your model…note to self. 🙂

Psalm 41:9, “Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.”

Thought for the Day: You can’t always prevent betrayal, but you can choose not to let it change who you are by forgiving the betrayer.
