Gratitude and Mentors

We drink from wells we did not dig.

— Deuteronomy 6:11 —

Quote Reflection

When I saw the opening quote and verse, it took me back to those early days in AA’s rooms. Alcoholics Anonymous was founded on June 10, 1935, when two drunks — Bill W. and Dr. Bob — decided there had to be a better way. By the time I got sober in 1987, the well was already dug. The people who came before me did the heavy lifting. They carved out a path and handed me a process to stay sober — one day at a time.

The same is true in my business and leadership journey. I had mentors who weathered storms I never had to endure. Their experience became my wisdom. Their scars became my roadmap. They dug the well — all I had to do was drink from it and then keep doing the work.

Today, I am grateful to pass on the “dug wells” that were handed to me.

Facts

Mentors invest wisdom and time into our growth.

They see what we could become before we do.

Gratitude recognizes the sacrifice, the patience, and the belief behind their influence.

IMO – We honor God when we honor those who poured into us. None of us arrived here alone.
