Faith Over Fear Day 4 – Fear of the Unknown

Faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.

— Philip Yancey —

Reflection

I remember a time about twenty years ago when our lives were overtaken by a massive unknown.

Our special guy, Jordan, was facing major back surgery; two titanium rods were placed from his pelvis to the top of his spine. The procedure would take six to eight hours, and we had no idea what to expect, plus our poor nonverbal Jordan would wake up all alone in recovery.

We had to work hard to calm ourselves down from the various worst-case scenarios fermenting in our minds.

How did we steady ourselves? First, we found the finest surgeon in the world, and by God’s grace, he was in Cincinnati. Then we prepared, worked, and prayed relentlessly—before the surgery, through the hospital stay, and during recovery at home.

Anxiety struggles to gain ground when we take prayerful action.

The unknown unsettles us because it removes predictability.

We want clarity before movement, but faith rarely works that way.

God usually gives just enough light for the next step, not the entire path.

When the future is filled with question marks, take one prayerful step at a time, while being led by the finest Power in the universe. 🙂

What unknowns in your life are giving you angst?

Have you tried taking one prayerful step at a time, relinquishing control to God to ease the angst?
