God Esteem

Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand-brake (emergency brake) on.

— Maxwell Maltz —

I receive a daily devotional from Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and yesterday these words really caught my eye:

I believe that genuine self-esteem — as opposed to pop psychological self-esteem — is built on two biblical truths.  It’s not about raising yourself up by your bootstraps or thinking positively or the “I’m OK; you’re not so hot” philosophy.  Genuine self-esteem is built on your relationship with Jesus and knowing what he created you for.

I observe a fair share of Christians who are not doing what Jesus created them to do because they spend far too much time listening to and doing what the world tells them to do.

Two things I am certain of — The world is a freakin’ mess and Jesus isn’t.
