Daily focalPOINT – Random Thoughts

As much as I try not to get sucked into watching or listening to the news or talk shows, every now and then I listen and watch and since this is my blog I am allowed to write about whatever I want…with the understanding that sometimes my wife and mother-in-law reads it.  Sometimes a good “vomit” of thoughts is healthy for the writer so here we go…

Presidential Election of 2012:  Once again helps me better understand why I was apolitical until the 1992 election and I voted for Ross Perot that year because in spite of his zaniness, he made sense.  I am once again apolitical.  As long as we have politicians and not leaders running for President and Congress, real change will never happen.  I wish Herman Cain would have just come clean.  Thank God for our constitution and the Godly principles it was based upon…because of that, we are still the greatest country in the world in spite of ourselves.

…I would love to see a Presidential race between Phil Jackson and Bill Belichick…if you don’t know who they are…google them

Joe-Pa:  Where there is smoke there is fire.  Another great example of human beings putting all their admiration and trust in a human being only to find out the “idol” was a human being.  Also a great example of the negative effects created when a person or sport becomes bigger than the entity it is representing.  We recently went through this with “Buckeye Nation.”  This reminded me of  Exodus 20:3, “You shall have no other Gods before me.”  A good reason why we should never build statues of people or of ourselves.  My heart goes out to the victims of this horrible tragedy.

Aurora, Colorado Movie Massacre:  I’m still too numb to read anything in the news about this horrible tragedy.  It simply verifies what I already knew…there is evil everywhere in this world and the only being to ever conquer it was/is Jesus.  That is why my cart is hooked up to the big Guy because you just never know...

Chick-fil-a:  Wow has this not turned into a typical media-hype gone crazy???  From what I can tell, the Chick-fil-a owner said he believes in the Bible’s view on marriage.  OK, since I also agree with the Bible’s view on marriage does that mean I hate gays?  HECK NO!  I have several friends who happen to be gay.  In fact two of them are married and are great guys.

This is a great example where Mr. Cathy (Chick-fil-a owner) is purported to be “intolerant and hateful” and is getting attacked by other “intolerants” who are acting hateful.  As the late Rodney King once said; “can’t we all just get along?”

…all I can say is I am way too big of a sinner to ever throw stones at someone else…God calls us to stay away from judging and always trump it with mercey.   James 2:12-13, “Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.  Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

Olympic Badminton:  Holy Shuttlecock!! (the “birdie” in badminton according to Wikipedia).  Jesse Owens has got to be turning over in his grave.  There was a badminton scandal in the Olympics!!  Seems as though some teams were losing on purpose in order to better position themselves to win.  HOLY TIGER-TAIL!!  I think I’ve figured something very important out; my Bengals have been doing this over the past 25 years…losing to better position themselves to win…this is the year of the BENGAL!

Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas:  The moment I saw her walk into the arena while watching the Olympics a few days ago I could see a focus in her eyes like no one else.  At the Olympic level it is all mental and that girl is one tough cookie mentally.  What a remarkable story.  Congratulations Gabby!

…with all of this being said…I’m back to watching my Reds, reading books and writing motivational blogs in the evening…I’m turning off the news for a while…if you couldn’t tell, it makes me a tad bit more crazier than I already am. 🙂

James 4:4, “You adulterous people!  Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
