Falling Forward – Day 12 – Releasing Old Beliefs

The greatest poverty is not the absence of resources, but the absence of belief in what is possible.

Reflection

As I’ve mentioned several times this month, autumn rewards anyone who lives it with eyes wide open. I can’t stop marveling at the transformation unfolding around me.

Leaves blaze into color, let go, and drift to the ground, where they slowly become the soil that will nourish next spring’s growth. Nothing is wasted.

What looks like an ending is really preparation for a new beginning.

Recently, while coaching a client, I made a statement that seemed to turn on a light bulb in her mind:

“Before we can escape poverty in our circumstances, we must first confront poverty in our thinking.”

Think about that.

Poverty isn’t always about what’s missing from our bank accounts. Sometimes it’s about what’s missing from our belief system.

A poverty-stricken mind sees limitations instead of possibilities, obstacles instead of opportunities, and reasons why something can’t happen instead of ways it might.

Just as autumn trees must shed their leaves to prepare for new growth, we must be willing to let go of the limiting beliefs that keep us stuck.

Perhaps it’s the belief that we’re too old, too young, too inexperienced, too broken, or simply not good enough.

Those thoughts can become prisons we build ourselves.

God didn’t create us to live imprisoned by what we lack. He created us to learn, grow, change, and discover possibilities beyond our present circumstances…be sure to read the caption under the picture above.

Soul Search

What limiting belief about yourself or your circumstances do you need to let “fall” away this autumn so God can make room for new growth?
