Reflection
When I read the opening quote, I was reminded of how many times I’ve asked God for direction while simultaneously telling Him where I’d like Him to take me. 🙂
Learning to listen has been a lifelong process for this highly driven old guy.
Stephen Covey’s fifth habit, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood,” was one of my first breakthroughs in learning this important art.
Listening helps us live in harmony with others and, more importantly, with our Creator when change is in the air.
Facts
Discernment of what’s next requires focused listening and often comes through prayer, quiet time, journaling, Scripture, people, a walk in nature, a closed door, an open door, ___________ (name your place of peace), or a persistent stirring that simply won’t go away.
God rarely hands us a detailed map of the next ten years. More often, He gives us enough light for the next step.
Our responsibility is to stay close enough, and quiet enough, to recognize it.
Soul Search
Am I genuinely seeking God’s direction or asking Him to approve mine?
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
