National Recovery Month – Day 21 – Power of Community

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

— Helen Keller —

Facts

Addiction loves isolation.

Recovery thrives in community… which is why 12 Step communities are so effective.

Reflection

Community is a key component of my P.E.A.C.E. acrostic.

One of the greatest discoveries of my recovery journey was realizing I didn’t have to walk alone.

Others understood. They had fallen too. They carried fears, regrets, and struggles, and somehow, they were moving forward.

Recovery taught me that asking for help isn’t weakness. Sometimes we borrow strength from others until our own returns.

I also learned long ago that God often answers our prayers through people. That’s why it matters who we surround ourselves with.

We need the right voices speaking into our lives—not the voices of the “committee in our head.” Isolation gives that committee the microphone.

Community gives us truth, perspective, hope, and a reminder that we don’t have to do this alone.

Soul Search

Who are the people helping me stay grounded—and am I staying connected to them?

“Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
