Reflection
As some of you know, our Jordy received a diagnosis for his disabilities a few weeks after his 40th birthday: a genetic disorder called PURA Syndrome.
It’s uncanny how many doors opened once we understood what we were facing.
We joined a Facebook group of parents whose children also have PURA (right now, there are only 800 known cases in the world), and it opened our eyes to something I knew but hadn’t fully grasped: there are people fighting battles just like ours, all around us, every day.
The longer I live, the more I see that everyone is carrying something. We don’t always know what it is, but knowing it’s there and choosing to lead with kindness anyway changes everything.
Kindness costs us little, but for someone mid-battle, it can be the one gentle thing that carries them through the day.
When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” ~R. J. Palacio
