Don’t Believe It – Day 20 – He’s Not A Punishing God

Pain is not God's punishment. It is often the corridor through which His deepest work is done.

— Joni Eareckson Tada —

THE LIE

“God is punishing me through my suffering.”

REFLECTION

I can certainly relate to the opening quote.

When life hurts, it’s easy to wonder if God is getting even with us.

The enemy loves that lie because it causes us to run from the very One who can heal us…been there, done that…and it darn near cost me my life.

Facts

Jesus settled the question of punishment at the cross.

It took me a long time to believe it, but today I know God is never standing over us with condemnation but walking beside us with compassion.

He may not remove every trial, but He promises to redeem every one of them.

Your suffering is not proof that God has abandoned you. It may be the very place where you discover His faithfulness…been there and still growing from that place.

SOUL SEARCH

Do you view your painful times in your life as God’s punishment or as an opportunity to trust His purpose?

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1
