THE LIE
“I have to pretend everything is fine. Showing weakness is shameful.”
REFLECTION
In my years of working with leaders in various capacities, I find the most effective leaders are the most vulnerable. They don’t profess to be something they aren’t. They make it clear to those they lead that they are simply a work in progress, like the rest.
Then there are those who wear masks, acting like they’ve got it all together while carrying burdens no one can see. Shame says, Hide your struggles.
Jesus did the opposite. He wept. In the garden, He admitted His soul was overwhelmed. He proved that honesty is not weakness; it’s faith.
I’ve learned that healing begins when we quit pretending.
God can’t heal the person we’re acting like. He heals the person we really are.
Bring your struggles into the light, and watch shame lose its grip while grace goes to work.
You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to trust the One who does.

What mask(s) do you need to remove so God can best use the person you really are?
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” — James 5:16
