Reflection
Starting is exciting.
The new idea, the new exercise contraption, the new running shoes, the fresh momentum, the burst of inspiration, there’s nothing quite like it.
But the world is full of wonderful beginnings that never became anything, because continuing is harder and less glamorous than starting.
Continuing requires you to push through the middle…that long, unglamorous stretch between the excitement of the beginning and the satisfaction of completion.
The middle is where most aspirational goals die.
It’s where doubt creeps in, where the new idea starts looking less shiny, where life interrupts.
Intentional action means staying with the thing you started. Not because it’s always easy, but because there is something on the other side that is worth more than the relief of quitting.
Completion builds character. And character builds everything else. And you can’t complete anything unless you continue after you start…it’s not rocket science.
Soul Search
- Is there something I’ve abandoned in the middle that I should return to?
- What would it feel like to actually finish this thing?
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)
