Taking Action – Day 2 – We Are Our Actions

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

— Aristotle —

Reflection:

When I look back on where I started and where I am today, I am living proof that purpose isn’t declared, it’s built, one repeated action at a time.

I took my passion for helping and inspiring others and turned it into a pretty decent life pursuit, one intentional action at a time.

From working basketball camps as a teen and young adult to helping lift others out of horrible addictions, to leading a business focused on adding value to those I led, to today, where I try my best to inspire others to Dream More, Be More, and Live in the Light More…my purpose statement.

Most people wait for motivation to strike before they move. But Aristotle had it backward from how we think: action comes first, character follows. The person who exercises daily isn’t disciplined because they feel like it; they feel like it because they’ve become disciplined.

The same is true spiritually and mentally. What you repeatedly do quietly shapes who you are becoming.

Small, consistent actions compound into a life.

Don’t wait to feel ready.

Move first.

Clarity follows motion.

I’ve been gaining clarity by taking (mostly) intentional action for well over fifty years…it works if you work it…I always write from experience.

  • What habit, if done consistently, would most transform my life right now?
  • What am I waiting to feel before I start?

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
