Get Together and Laugh

We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Reflection

Yesterday, I teed it up with three of my closest childhood friends—guys I’ve known for over sixty years.

We compiled one of the most talented and unsuccessful high school golf teams in Covington High School history. Yes, I said that correctly. The reason we weren’t as successful as we could have been is that the golf course brought out the fun in us…at least it did for a couple of us. 😉

Five or six years ago, the four of us started a tradition of getting together to shoot a round of golf a couple of times a month.

Sure, we love the game, but the real reason we show up is to laugh, compete, and enjoy being together.

At one point yesterday, one of us dribbled a tee shot maybe ten yards. Without missing a beat, another burst out laughing and said, “Sorry for laughing, but that was really funny.” And just like that, we were all laughing like kids again.

The moral of this story…stay in the game, stay connected, and don’t take yourself too seriously.

Joy and laughter keep us young regardless of our age.

I always write from experience.
