Courage Over Comfort

Progress begins when the swimmies end.

Reflection

Our youngest jumping into a foam pit for the first time back in June.

Our granddaughters live eight hours away, so we don’t get to see them as often as we’d like. Because of that, I’ve learned to linger in memory—to pause and replay moments I’ve been blessed to witness in person. Those memories still make my heart smile.

What stands out most is their growth, not just physical, but life growth…noticeable every time we visit.

One trip, they’re afraid to jump in the pool; the next, they are without their swimmies and are water bugs.

On one visit, they need coaxing to shoot a layup the right way; the next, they drain it with confidence.

From being afraid to even approach the backyard zip line to seeing how close they can get to smashing into a tree.

Recently, the oldest—now nine—sat quietly reading while her two younger sisters did everything possible to get a rise out of her…a nine-year-old just sitting and reading, and concentrating with a couple of squirrels surrounding her. 🙂

Growth shows up in subtle, beautiful ways.

Kids have a remarkable way of pushing through fear and trying something new.

We adults?

Not so much.

Here are a few truths worth sitting with:

Growth rarely feels comfortable.

Clarity can be unsettling because it demands change.

God often reveals the next step without showing the whole path, inviting trust over certainty.

Like an athlete stepping into competition, faith requires movement, not perfect conditions.

Today, lean into the uncomfortable truth God may be revealing. Growth begins the moment comfort stops leading—and you’re willing to jump into the unknown…or the big gigantic pool of life with endless opportunities.

Soul Search:

  • What step have I been delaying out of fear?
  • Where do I need to trust God more than my feelings?

By the way, we’ll be visiting our three little princesses in a couple of days, and I’ll be storing up more moments of courageous growth since our last visit.

“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
