Daily focalPOINT – Real

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”  ~Friedrich Nietsche

I am preparing a presentation for a group of 5th and 6th graders around the topic of “Being Real.”  During my preparation I thought about how difficult it is for young people to get real today because there are bombarded with all types of “instant” stimuli.

This troublesome situation does not only apply to young people but to all of us.  If we allow it, we are being overloaded constantly through stimuli from the internet, social networking, television, iPods, videos and the like.  All of these forms of stimulus are presenting to us, in a subliminal way, the world’s view on how we should “be” or how we need to do things in order to “be.”

If you struggle with who you are and what “getting real” for you means, I suggest you start with proclaiming “whose” you are and then create a plan for your life.  It is through the struggles and the execution of the plan where you will find yourself and a power greater than you who wants you to succeed and be YOU.

P.S.  This presentation I am doing is at Covington’s Annual 5th and 6th Grade Overnighter.  An event I helped start 25 years ago just six months after being discharged from a chemical dependency center without a clue about who I was or whose I was…if you have God and you are working a plan…amazing things will happen…I write from experience.
