Recovery Month – Day 8 – The Best Policy

Recovery begins with honesty.

Reflection

There’s a saying that always rings true: “If you tell the truth at 8 a.m., you don’t have to remember what you said at 5 p.m.” Honesty became more than a principle for me—it was oxygen for my recovery. Without it, I couldn’t breathe, let alone change.

The turning point came when I took a fearless personal and moral inventory. I wrote down the good, the bad, and the ugly—every victory, every failure, every shadow I had tried to hide. Then I handed it all over to God, trusting Him to do what I could not. That surrender gave me the courage to walk in honesty one day at a time.

What I discovered is that honesty doesn’t just set you free—it keeps you free. It keeps your story straight, your conscience clear, and your heart light. People say, “Honesty is the best policy.” I can say with certainty—I’ve lived it, and it’s the only way forward.
