Recovery Month – Day 2 – The Power in Admitting Powerlessness

Admitting defeat was not easy for a lifelong jock like myself. I had willed myself through many situations over the years, but found that willpower had nothing to do with putting an addiction to rest. It took me significant time to successfully complete Step One…which meant I was admitting I was a loser.

Admitting defeat is victory in the recovery world.

Admitting we have a problem isn’t a one-time event. It’s a daily confession that keeps pride from sneaking back in.

I just had a friend throw 100 days of sobriety down the drain because he decided to start drinking again to make sure he was powerless over alcohol…and of course, he hasn’t stopped…but for the grace of God, there go I.
