Lent Mindset – Day 44 – Peace in His Will

I found no solace in pleading for an easy way out; only when I surrendered to the hard path was my heart able to find peace.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
—Luke 22:42 (NIV)

Reflection
A deep peace comes from doing the right thing—even when it’s hard.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever done was admit my powerlessness over drugs and alcohol. For years, I tried to negotiate with God, seeking healing on my terms. But everything changed the moment I truly surrendered.

Solid recovery could only begin when I stopped fighting for control and asked for His will to be done.

In Luke 22:42, we see Jesus on Maundy Thursday in the Garden of Gethsemane, facing unimaginable suffering. He didn’t choose comfort—He chose obedience. That surrender wasn’t a weakness—it was courage. And in that moment of total submission, He found peace—not because the path was easy, but because it was right.

Obedience won’t always bring immediate relief. Sometimes, it brings pain and unpleasant consequences. But in the long run, surrendering to God’s will adds more to our lives than it ever takes away.

Thought for the day:
When you’re facing a hard decision, remember Jesus in the garden. Peace doesn’t come from getting your way. It comes from trusting God’s way.
