Supposed To Be

What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it is supposed to be.

Reflection

We all carry an image of how life should be—perfect relationships, seamless careers, and a smooth path to happiness. But when reality doesn’t match that picture, frustration and disappointment creep in.

The truth is that life unfolds in unexpected ways, often richer and more meaningful than our original plans. When we release rigid expectations, we open ourselves to growth, joy, and even blessings we never imagined.

Instead of resisting what is, embrace the present, trust the process, and find beauty in life’s unpredictability. The real magic happens when we stop chasing perfection and start appreciating reality.

Do you struggle with how it’s “supposed to be?”

I used to be a big “supposed to be-er.”

Once I began using Jesus’ teachings as my field manual, I quit worrying about what I was “supposed to be” and became who He wanted me to be.

In essence, I changed from someone who worried about pleasing the world to someone who tries to please God through my actions.

Most days, I fall short, but God doesn’t seem to mind as He keeps loving me from one failure to the next.

1 Timothy 6:6, “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment”  (ESV)
