Post Freedom-Day Reflection
Yesterday, I began jotting down some thoughts in my journal after reading Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
As Americans, we consider ourselves to be free.
Living as free people does not prevent us from living in bondage to our negative thinking…see the opening quote.
As human beings, we are as free as our mind and spirit allows.
Many are held in bondage by failure, others’ opinions, the past, analysis paralysis, pursuit of things, perfectionism, shame, guilt, the world’s view of success, the need to judge others, a fragile spirit that leads to being easily offended, worry, anger, the envy of others, scarcity, and anything else that prevents us from being all God has created us to be.
Question
Are you free but yoked to burdensome thoughts?
Try living this…
You my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command” ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” (Galatians 5:13-14)
In other words, if you feel your mental state is holding you back, get over yourself and love a neighbor or two or three or however many it takes to flip the script in your head back to a state of fruitful freedom.
Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
