Crushing Fear – Day 41 – Pride

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.

When I was in my downward spiral with addiction, I couldn’t ask anyone for help because I viewed asking for help as a form of weakness.

I was too “proud” to ask for help.

Fact

Through the use of pride, the enemy has destroyed countless numbers of lives.

I’ve also witnessed the type of pride Lewis is talking about in the opening quote.  This type of pride destroys relationships. I’ve seen a fair share of leaders get drunk on their success, and because of pride and ego, they forget about the people who helped make them successful.

It’s OK to be confident in ourselves but never to the point where we think we are better than others and/or “too strong” to seek help.

Solution

If you are battling pride and feel as though you are losing, pray for God to remove your pride, picture laying it at His feet, and let him work through your weaknesses, and you will become stronger than you ever imagined.

For when we are weak (in God’s presence), we become strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV), “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

 Reflection:

What beliefs, thoughts, and actions cause you to struggle with having too much pride?
