In yesterday’s blog I set a lofty goal that I knew I could achieve in spite of my paltry size and age.
In other words, our goals, if we want to achieve them, must stretch us, but must also be in touch with reality.
We also must be careful that the pursuit of a BHAC doesn’t throw other key aspects of our life out of balance.
I’ve been in the business world for four decades and watched many business leaders get so obsessed with achieving a BHAC, they lose key employees, family and friends along the way.
My point is this–maybe you have a 2019 BHAC of getting out off debt. What you don’t want to do is make the attainment of this goal so aggressive that your family can’t eat. I know that’s an extreme example, but hopefully you get my point.
Sure, there has to be some pain involved when we are making change, but we have the ability to keep the pain in moderation and our priorities our priorities as we advance toward the achievement of our goals.
While preparing to put your BHAC in motion on January 1, 2019, answer these questions:
- What is important to me? What are my priorities, in order of importance?
- What will I NOT lose while chasing my BHAC?
- What is the timeline for achieving my BHAC?
- Is the timeline set to stretch me but not break me and those around me?
