Are You Rich Enough?

Proverbs 13:7, “There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.”

If you knew the world was going to end in 30 days what would you do in those final 30 days?  I’ve asked myself this question on more than one occasion and of course I would want to make sure I spent all of the time with those closest to me.  I would also want to spend time with my friends, especially those I hadn’t seen in a while.  I don’t think I would risk taking an exotic trip because everyone would probably be doing that.  The one thing I would certainly do, is I would drain my bank account helping those who were unable to help themselves.  (i.e. you can’t take it with you.)

I then wonder how God would view me when he saw me putting forth a valiant effort to drain my bank account in order to help as many people as I could in those final days.  I don’t think he would be pleased with me, especially if  I didn’t live my life in a way previously where my eyes, ears, heart, soul and hands were open to those who needed a hand.  This would be like signing up to do a marathon and spending only 30 days training for it…it would be ugly.

Yet many people live their lives this way (I am just as guilty).  We store up our “riches” for “someday” and take our eye off of what we are called to do….TODAY.  Or we blow our riches on all the wrong things…Hopefully you are getting my point.

In the verse above Solomon is basically saying rich means nothing if it is not used in the right way.

Challenge yourself and answer the following questions:

1.  If the world would end tomorrow, would I have far too much left in my bank account that could have been used to further expand God’s kingdom on earth?

2.  If the world would end tomorrow, would I have very little in my bank account because I used all my money to further expand MY kingdom on earth?

3.  If the world would end tomorrow, would my bank account and my life look like a life lived to further God’s kingdom on earth?

The world is going to end someday.  Your world may end before the world ends.  If you’ve said yes to Jesus in your heart, then your world doesn’t necessarily end when your life ends.  But…when the world does truly end, regardless if you are alive or have passed into eternity; how will God view the life you lived?  Take a look at your current financial state and how you handle your money; that will be the best indicator of whether or not God will view you as living a “rich” life or not.
